The Habits of Mind are an identified set of problem solving, life related skills, necessary to effectively operate in society promoting strategic reasoning, perseverance, creativity and craftsmanship. The use of these 16 Habits of Mind serve to provide the student with skills to work through real life situations that allow that student to respond using awareness and intentional strategies in order to gain a positive outcome.
These Habits of Mind seldom are performed in isolation; rather, clusters of behaviours are drawn forth and used in various situations. For example, when listening intently, we use the habits of thinking flexibly, thinking about our thinking (metacognition), thinking and communicating with clarity and precision, and perhaps even questioning and posing problems.
