Breakout Spaces are purpose built and intentionally designed for small group work. The aim of a good Breakout Space design is to use multi-functional work areas that can be used for informal meetings and collaborative work. Students can present to each other as peer presentations, peer assessment or negotiated learning.
Breakout Spaces are often connected to but separate from formal learning areas. This may be through the use of sliding glass doors or glass partitions. This allows for indirect or minimal supervision and allows students to develop skills in independent learning.
Breakout spaces can be provided to allow individual student work but with suitable furniture provided for cooperative learning as well. These spaces can be used as breakout for either teachers or students as part of the learning process.
