Post Occupancy Evaluations (POE) are often conducted by architectural firms after the hand over of a new building. Post Occupancy Evaluations are an important tool in allowing architects to reflect and learn from any miscalculations or assumptions made in building designs. These firms work hard developing collaborative workshops with staff and co-constructing Innovative Learning Environments to meets the identified needs of local learning communities. There is, however, often a disconnect between the identified learning outcomes that a community wanted to achieve and the reality of working and learning in a new learning environment.
SCEC Post Occupancy Education Evaluations
What is often under reported is the Educational Evaluation of new Learning Environments. How well has the design and constructed environment met the educational needs of the school and the students. SCEC Innovative Learning Environment Evaluations can identify potential areas for improvement, pedagogical change, furniture configuration, use changes or even foot traffic management issues.
Innovative Learning Environment Evaluations can also give the staff, students and community an opportunity to reflect on new learning environments and provide feedback for future building projects or recommend changes to maximise the potential of environments once students and staff have had the opportunity to work and learn in them.
Innovative Learning Environment Evaluations include;
- detailed pedagogical teacher interviews
- student interviews
- a comprehensive community survey
- a report on the effectiveness of the ILE
Innovative Learning Environment Evaluations provide schools with the information to improve and enhance future developments.
