The notion of transparency can be both organisational and physical. As well as the extensive use of glass to bring natural light into innovative learning environments many schools are for adopting designs that also use glass to connect different spaces within the school.
The creation of this visual connectedness between the formal and informal learning environments allow the students to gain a passive awareness of the learning and work taking place around them. Each member of the learning community can see what everyone else is doing. The transparency also reflects an open door policy where nothing is hidden. Spaces can be designed to promote transparency, using lots of glass to reinforce the openness and the relationships of staff and students. This notion is for everyone, including parents. It is open and welcoming as they walk around the schools and through the different learning spaces.
